Damsels in distress at Work
Talk about being a female and surviving the corporate world. It's not easy! Where opportunities are unlimited and success rate higher for the women; there is still a lot of pain and misery involve! The fact that is most evident is that these damsels are 90% of the time not rescued by a knight in shinning Armour. We are pretty much on our own in the Corporate World and the situation is "take it or leave it"
So, the damsels have to learn to be the knight for themselves and protect their self from all that is out there. It's been 5 years that I'm in the corporate world and believe it or not I have seen it all. From obnoxious attitudes to stupid over-the-limit charming behaviors and my the corporate jealousy and flirtation! Most of the time you'll feel as if you are nothing more than a decoration piece.
The worst of all is the believe that being woman makes us inferior or if we are gaining success in our careers it is because of the fact we are woman! Why can't it be accepted that we are getting success cause we are working harder than man! We spent time working on our desks instead of standing in the corridors gossiping and smoking!
But that's just one side of it (sorry I ventilated a bit too much) The other side comprises of our colleagues and peers who appreciate us on our success and who give us the due credit of any job well done! Unfortunately the ratio of such men is very small. You will find one or two in hundreds.
The most difficult part is to remain pleasant, tolerate and when the situation calls for it, show man their limits or what you think of them. The line between the two is almost invisible and striking the balance is crucial for success at work. The disrespectful remarks and stares that a woman receives at work are sometime enough to through any woman in tears. Is it so difficult to respect us? Can't anyone consider us with same respect they offer their mothers and sisters.......? in case anybody has forgotten it the woman at work are from the same lot as your mothers, sisters and daughters.
I applaud all those women who are working and not only working but doing it beautifully, making their own way as they go and leaving their footmarks for other women to follow! But i think the lot that is most worthy of the appreciation is of those men who work with us and who not only support us but who protect us time and again. Thanks guys!
And to all my fellow women...darlings you may be made of sugar and spice and all that is nice! But you have the nerves of steel and will of iron! You can do it...and dont hesitate from rocking few boats which have the wrong passangers ;) I hope you got my meaning!
Extremely proud on being a woman!
